Parents in the Avant Garde
Scribble Scores is a working method within the collaborative practice.

Paper on the floor. Markers, instruments, people of different ages. For CCAM Fest: Fluxus, Nicole and I brought Scribble Scores to the dance studio at Yale’s Schwarzman Center. The marks on that paper gave the room something to play.
A scribble carries the movement that made it. The long line, the spiral, the dense bit where somebody stayed for a while: these can all be heard as instructions. Each player decides how.
A score brings people into a relationship. Someone follows a line, somebody answers, somebody waits. The musicians can make a decision with the people who made the drawing right there. For us, that is where the work happens.
The drawing and playing continue through Parents in the Avant Garde, our work with children, parents and other musicians.
